The Patria, unlike the other Spanish typewriters, was not invented in Spain, but was a licensed copy of the Swiss Patria, invented by Otto Haas. In 1954, Imperial Española patented a design using a one-piece aluminum frame and modified type levers. Around 1962, the typewriter was relabeled as Amaya.
